Wallowa County was the first county in Oregon to see the return of wolves, as they migrated across the Snake River from Idaho.
ODFW monitors the whereabouts of these top predators, whose numbers have been growing steadily since reintroduction. It's not uncommon to hear them when backpacking in the Imnaha River drainages, where they are most common, though you may not see them.
