Celebrating there 30th anniversary as proprietors of Vali's Alpine Delicatessen at Wallowa Lake, Mike and Maggie Vali have more reasons than most to tally up the blessings of their life this Memorial Day Weekend. Not only is their unique restaurant- at which they serve only one entree a night, by reservation only- so popular they actually turn away customers, but the couple enjoys life among friends in a place that they once only dreamed about. |

"It was his dream," insists Maggie Vali "I just came along for the ride...But I've never regretted it for one day." |
The couple hosted some 150 friends and well-wishers at Vali's last Thursday at an open house to celebrate a quarter of a century at Wallowa Lake. |

Vali's serves pretty much the same Hungarian and American dinners it did 30 years ago. Continental breakfast with delectable offerings from Vali's oven is first-come, first-served 9:00-11:00 a.m. mornings.

Maggie Vali admits it took a lot of adjustment for her when they first moved here. I was a city girl, I'd never lived in a small town before." But she, like her husband of 41 years, had no doubt they found "home" a world away from their native Hungary when they found Wallowa County. |
